A sports governing body is a sports organization that sanctiones a job.[1][2][3] Sports governing bodies take different forms and have a variety of organizational functions. Examples include taking disciplinary action for infractions of the rules and deciding on changes to the rules in the sport they are governed by. Governing bodies have different scopes. It can cover a range of sports at an international level, such as the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee, or just one sport at a national level, such as rugby league football. National bodies may or may not be affiliated with international bodies for the same sport. The first international federations were formed at the end of the nineteenth century.
